About Wabi

About the Center

Wabi Wellness Center is a peaceful wooded setting nestled in south east Ohio along Margaret’s Creek, named after Margaret Hanning Snowden.  She was 22 when she first set foot on these banks in 1796.  The adventurous spirit of this frontier woman unites with the natural beauty of the outdoors to create an energy of strength and balance.

What does Wabi mean? Wabi is an aesthetic value of the Japanese tea ceremony reflecting the beauty of rustic simplicity. It is the ability to see the magical potential that lies within the ordinary world. Wabi is a peaceful place that lies within each of us patiently awaiting our arrival. The focus here is to co-create a welcoming center by cooperatively building dreams. The goal is to stimulate joy and wonder for all who enter.

“One who has not experienced the rigors of austerity like the grasses, can not hope to understand the essence of wabi. It is only natural to appreciate the flowers in their season, but a finer sense is required to uncover the beauty of the grasses beneath the snow.”

This restorative setting provides myriad opportunities to relax in the comfy simple surroundings of a safe space.  In addition to the wild plant and animal life, there are also many useful herbs and colorful flowers flourishing here.  Most were gifts shared by friends and planted by Cindy who care takes this land, weeds endlessly in the gardens, and feeds the birds.

Enjoy the view from the back deck or sit on the front porch and watch the morning sunrise.  Relax by the creek and listen to the flowing water with its words of wisdom.  At night, meditate on the burning embers of a fire or watch attentively for shooting stars.  Open up all your senses.  Delight in quiet contemplation or enjoy the company of others, nurturing caring relationships.

You may wish to attend an inspiring class or schedule a consultation with Cindy, manager and resident herbalist.  She is a people person who loves sharing her life experiences and knowledge with others if they wish.  If you prefer peace and quiet, she will respectfully leave you alone and honor your space.  She offers education on diverse topics for those interested in healing plants, holistic well being, and sustainable living.
